Ignore Trump's Obvious Insanity Biden Got Old
A condensed overview of 15 hours of Fox News for the week ending 5/25/25
Last week started with the announcement that former president Joe Biden had an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bone. The folks at Fox used the former president’s diagnosis as even more proof that the entire Democratic Party was complicit in hiding his declining health to the American public.
Meanwhile Trump continues to show signs of his own cognitive decline along with a severe personality disorder. During a commencement speech at West Point Trump claimed there were ‘no wars and no problems’ during his first administration.
During Trump’s first term in office the U.S. was still at war in Afghanistan, Neo Nazis terrorized Charlottesville, Virginia, a global pandemic caused the death of millions, international supply chains fell apart, Americans faced shortages of food, medical equipment and other necessities, and entire industries were shutdown.
The same summer that COVID-19 ravaged the country Americans participated in over 10,600 demonstrations after a Black man, George Floyd, was murdered by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In the final month of Trump’s presidency, a violent mob of his supporters tried to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power and broke into the Capitol building by tearing down barricades and smashing windows and doors. Over 140 members of law enforcement were injured, while Trump sat in the White House dining room watching the melee on Fox News.
Within 36 hours of the riot five people had died and millions of dollars of government property had been damaged. Like any other U.S. president Trump also had his share of mass shootings, school shootings, natural disasters and terrorist attacks.
For Trump to say he had ‘no problems” during his first administration isn’t just an understatement it’s a profound sign of a deeply deluded man who lives in his own reality. His self-aggrandizing fantasies are only amplified by his personal propaganda machine - Fox News.
Fox News will twist itself into knots to defend their glorious leader’s late-night rants on social media, his erratic trade policies that rattle markets and his obvious fabrications about nearly every subject.
Shows I covered on Fox News last week:
Fox & Friends
The Five
Hannity
Everyone on Fox Pretended to Be an Expert on Prostate Cancer
On Monday morning the folks at “Fox & Friends” spent exactly two and a half minutes discussing Biden’s cancer diagnosis before launching into an extended segment that tied his illness to a complex conspiracy meant to keep him in power as a puppet for the most radical Democrats.
By the end of the day Fox had dedicated about half its airtime to a theory that Joe Biden and his doctors must have known he had cancer but purposefully hid it from the public.
Sean Hannity and Brian Kilmeade became self-taught urologists and oncologists overnight. It appeared that Trump and his propaganda machine were twisting Biden’s health crisis into the latest attempt to negate and erase his presidency.
It’s not surprising that Fox would feed such a delusion, but it was disheartening that some media outlets also fed right into it. We have a madman as our current president there’s no reason to obsess about the not-so-distant past.
Brian Kilmeade was the first Fox News host to suggest a conspiracy of some kind.
“It's amazing to me with the fantastic medical care that presidents get, with the constant updates in medicals, that this would slip by,” said Kilmeade.
“Especially because it's a fairly advanced form, and so much so that it's metastasized to a bone. And you would think that that would give you a lot more time to catch it,” said his co-host Charlie Hurt.
Later during another segment while Hurt was interviewing Sen. Rick Scott, he used the phrase ‘cover up.’
“There was a real cover up to prevent this from coming out. Is there an appetite among Republicans to actually get to the bottom and hope people responsible?”
On “The Five” Biden’s diagnosis led the program.
Martha MacCallum opened the first segment.
“Questions are mounting over former President Joe Biden shocking stage four prostate cancer diagnosis, which has aggressively spread to his bones. While we wish the former president well, a key ally of the Obama administration is asking why it wasn't caught sooner.”
Jesse Watters also created a conspiracy theory out of thin air.
“They're saying that this was caught possibly earlier, and then nothing was released and then possibly exposed as a way to blunt the impact of the Hur report audio release.”
Greg Gutfeld added to it.
“He was worn down on purpose, deliberately kept feeble and weak, which made him pliable.”
On “Hannity” the senior Fox News host dedicated most of his airtime to the story.
“Foes, friends, medical doctors that I know. And according to most physicians, this type of prostate cancer. It takes years to get to this point . . .Of course, this comes in the shadow of a very real cover up conducted by Joe Biden's family, his staffers, the State-run legacy media mob surrounding the former president's obvious cognitive decline. They lied to their readers. They lied to their viewers. They did it day after day. . . They did it night after night on really? Tell us, you know who was in charge, Jordan Biden's years as president. Because it wasn't Joe,” said Hannity.
Fox vs. PBS - How the Two Networks Covered Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis
On Tuesday the folks on “The Five” brought up Biden’s diagnostic testing. Jesse Watters asked his co-host Jessica Tarlov if she believed Biden’s medical history.
“Joe Biden's last known prostate specific antigen test was in 2014, and his first cancer diagnosis was last Friday. They never tested his prostate for cancer in the last ten years. Do you believe that?” asked Watters.
“Yeah, I do believe that. It's there are a lot of doctors who've been talking about the fact that now, after the age of 70, that they don't recommend that you test your PSA levels. Now, I think that if you are the commander in chief, in a leader of the free world, you should probably have some extra tests than the average 75, 78-year-old. But you know, I have no reason to not believe them about that. And even Scott Adams, who's a good friend of Greg's and created a Dilbert who is unfortunately also dying of the same cancer, he posted a video saying he was going to pass away this summer. And he's no fan of Joe Biden, but he said it is completely feasible that they did just find out about this,” said Tarlov.
The same night on “Hannity,” Sean Hannity made several assumptions without a medical expert guest.
“Most medical experts believe this likely took up to ten years to get this bad, but we're supposed to believe that Biden's cancer went totally, completely, utterly unnoticed during his time as president, despite the round the clock, world class medical care. I saw it from my own eyes in the Middle East last week,” said Hannity.
PBS Talked to a Medical Doctor
The day before on the “PBS News Hour” co-anchor Geoff Bennett asked Dr. Jay Raman, Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center about Biden’s diagnosis.
“There's also the question of why this disease was detected so late, especially in someone who, like former President Biden, has access to state of the art care he was receiving annual physicals. What questions does this raise for you?” asked Bennett.
“Well, I think I would tell you to be perfectly honest. If we look at national screening guidelines, for example, from the American Urological Association, screening guidelines really recommend screening between the ages of 45 to 50, all the way up to about 70 years of age, and certainly when you get to men who are over in their upper 70s or even 80 years of age, routine screening is really not recommended. It's very possible that these men may die of some other cause, and then prostate cancer. So, although President Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive type of prostate cancer, I wouldn't necessarily say it was due to lack of screening. It was perhaps purposeful, given his age and potentially life expectancy,” said Raman.
Every Young Man in America Wants That Sweet Sweet Medicaid
The legislation Trump likes to call the ‘Great Big Beautiful Bill’ or ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ is the budget reconciliation bill that includes tax breaks, spending cuts, increased border security funding along with other projects the Trump administration wants to push through in one single piece of legislation.
The bill includes nearly $800 billion cuts to spending in Medicaid. The legislation, which has passed the House and is still headed for the Senate, includes new work requirements.
The new requirement is set to start in Jan. 1, 2029 which is after Trump’s term ends. People enrolled in Medicaid would also have to verify their eligibility in the program twice a year instead of once.
Critics of the bill say that the work requirement could kick off as many as 7.6 million people off Medicaid.
A work requirement might seem reasonable, but many people enroll in Medicaid after becoming unemployed and only use it for a bridge until they find new a new job. An unemployed person is also going to struggle to pay for health insurance premiums at any cost.
On Monday Brian Kilmeade repeated a talking that he’s made before about Medicaid.
“But fundamentally, Medicaid ballooned because Barack Obama and Obamacare committed the federal government to pay for state aid, 95% of it. And they're saying, why are we on the hook for this? There are people here that are able bodied getting Medicaid, hurting other people that actually need it, which it was intended for,” said Kilmeade.
Later during another segment on “Fox & Friends,” Charlie Hurt repeated the same argument.
“And let's talk about it. They just go straight to, oh, it cuts Medicaid. Well, no it doesn't. What it does is it strengthens it and protects it by getting people off that able bodied 30-year-old men without dependents, ought to be working. There ought to be a work requirement if you're going to get paid. No working American gets paid for nothing,” said Hurt.
Absolutely no one on Medicaid gets any type of income from the program. Medicaid is basically a form of free or low cost health insurance depending on the state and specific medical costs.
The same day on “The Five” Jesse Watters seemingly followed the same script as other Fox News employees only this time his example of a young abled bodied man was younger.
“I want to make a point about Medicare. . . They keep on saying you're going to cut Medicare for these people. You know what they're doing. If you're a young, able bodied, healthy American man, 26 years old, you don't even want to go to work. You can get on Medicaid. It's blowing a hole in the budget thanks to Barack Obama. You can live at your parent's house. Play softball on the weekends. Sell ecstasy on the side. Not even look for a job I like. And you can get free health care. That's what they're doing. They're just closing that lazy loophole,” said Watters.
It’s interesting that in all three cases the Fox News hosts focused on young able bodied men. According to a recent study by Cleveland Clinic:
An online survey among approximately 1,174 U.S. males 18 years or older, Cleveland Clinic found that 72% of men would rather do household chores, like cleaning the bathroom or mowing the lawn, than go to the doctor.
Another study cited by the American Heart Association found that men were less likely to get preventive screenings, seek timely medical care or be vaccinated for the flu.
The folks at Fox News seem to be creating a problem that doesn’t exist by singling out the demographic that is the least likely to run up high costs for any Medicaid program.
Brian Kilmeade Admits the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ Will Increase the Deficit
On Monday on “Fox & Friends” Brian Kilmeade begrudgingly admitted Trump’s glorious bill might increase the deficit and national debt.
“The CBO (Congressional Budget Office), the so-called nonpartisan, which seems to be partisan responsible for the federal budget, says if it passes in its current form, it will add $3.3 trillion to $5.2 trillion. That's what Rand Paul was hopping on to say that I can't vote for this. Guys like Massie and Rand Paul. The people have basically given up on those guys.”
According to the Tax Policy Center the budget reconciliation bill would reduce federal revenues by $3.8 trillion over the next decade. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates the bill would add $3.3 trillion to the federal debt over the next decade.
The CBO also found the impacts of the proposed legislation would cause increases to the deficit for several years after Trump leaves office.
Brian Kilmeade also didn’t seem to know that spending bills often include projects in both Republican and Democratic districts.
“The Chip Roy crowd says. And I understand it. We left half the new green he called it scam in play because we didn't take away all those projects. Why? Because some of them are being built in Republican districts in blue states. And if you take that away, there go their jobs, there goes their projects.”
This is not exactly new as most spending bills have been written this way for decades.
A Navy Admiral Drops a Truth Bomb on Fox & Friends
As part of its Fleet Week celebrations on “Fox & Friends” Brian Kilmeade spoke to Rear Admiral Carl Lahti of the U.S. Navy about the recent spike in recruitment.
“Absolutely. And really, starting in January of 2024 for our recruiting numbers substantially picked up. Where we deploy recruiters in the field, we're able to tell our story better,” said Lahti.
Kilmeade abruptly cut him off.
“Admiral, thanks so much for having us. Right now, I want to go to the U.S. Navy Band. I believe it's anchors away. Take it away, guys.”
Since November Fox News has promoted the narrative that the U.S. military has exceeded its recruitment expectations because of enthusiasm about his administration.
That’s not entirely true as Rear Admiral Carl Lahti accidentally revealed in his brief exchange with Brian Kilmeade.
According to reporting by the Associated Press military enlistment was 12.5% higher in 2024 than 2023 during the Biden administration. The numbers for fiscal year 2025 also increased a month before Trump’s w
According to Defense Department data the increase in recruitment started well before Trump’s win in November 2024. A number of different policy changes may have helped the U.S. military fill its ranks such as improved recruitment strategies, increased bonuses and better prep courses.
The new prep courses help potential recruits meet both academic and physical standards. The Army launched its latest prep course in August 2022 while the Navy began is new program in April 2023.
According to The American Homefront Project some of the growth in new recruits has also come from a disproportionate increase of women. About 10,000 women enlisted in 2024 which was a 18% increase from the previous year for male recruits the increase was only 8%.
The U.S. military also increased its spending on adverting and marketing which also started during the Biden administration.
Stories Fox News Ignored
Every week I compare the hours I’ve watched on Fox News to five hours of the PBS News Hour. The following list are stories that PBS covered that Fox News did not. Source - PBS News Hour transcripts
Updates in the Israel-Hamas war
In the Gaza Strip, health officials say Israeli airstrikes killed more than 80 people, including several women and an infant. That came as the U.N. reported that humanitarian aid still has not reached Gaza's population. Israel has allowed dozens of aid trucks into Gaza this week after a months long blockade. (PBS News Hour)
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel probably killed Hamas' de facto leader in Gaza. Israel had targeted Mohammed Sinwar in a series of strikes in a hospital last week. Neither side has officially confirmed his death. (PBS News Hour)
Health officials in Gaza say Israeli airstrikes killed at least 60 people overnight into Friday morning. Israel says it targets militants and has vowed to press ahead until Hamas disarms. Meantime, aid is finally trickling in after Israel ended its monthslong blockade. But the U.N. says only 115 of its 400 aid trucks in Gaza have actually reached Palestinians in recent days. (PBS News Hour)
The Supreme Court is allowing the Trump administration to strip legal protections from hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan immigrants. The justices put on hold a ruling from a federal judge that had kept in place so-called temporary protected status, or TPS. Such status allows migrants to live and work in the U.S. legally because their home countries are deemed unsafe. The decision puts some 350,000 Venezuelans at risk of deportation. (PBS News Hour)
A lower court ruled the Trump administration cannot move forward with its plan to dismantle the U.S. Institute of Peace. The organization was created and funded by Congress 40 years ago to focus on resolving violent conflicts worldwide. (PBS News Hour)
A federal judge heard arguments in a legal challenge to the Trump administration’s sweeping cuts to AmeriCorps. Twenty-four states and the District of Columbia argue the administration overstepped its authority in slashing the program. PBS produced a segment where they talked to several nonprofits around the country about how the cuts have affected their organizations. (PBS News Hour)
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stirred controversy by making the false claim that the constitutional writ of habeas corpus justifies the administration's ability to detain and deport migrants. Habeas corpus involves the right to challenge one's detention in court. The Trump administration has floated the idea of suspending it as part of its broader efforts to expel undocumented immigrants, but only Congress has the authority to do so. (PBS News Hour)
Tribal colleges and universities have endured decades of chronic underfunding, relying heavily on federal support to stay afloat. Now, the Trump administration’s broad cuts to federal programs are hitting Indian Country hard, posing a serious threat to the future of these vital institutions. (PBS News Hour)
Target is warning that sales will slip this year as customers remain worried about the impact of President Trump's tariffs and the broader economy. The discount retailer also cited the impact of boycotts related to its rolling back of diversity, equity and inclusion policies, or DEI. (PBS News Hour)
A federal judge blocked President Trump's executive order to shut down the Department of Education. He also directed the administration to reinstate the employees who were laid off in recent mass firings. It's a major setback to Trump's goal of dismantling the department. The department says it will challenge the order. (PBS News Hour)
A divided Supreme Court rejected a bid by the Catholic Church of Oklahoma to establish what would have been the nation's first religious charter school. The justices came to a rare tie vote, 4-4, after Amy Coney Barrett recused herself. The outcome affirmed the Oklahoma Supreme Court's decision to block the online Catholic charter school, which aimed to incorporate Catholic teachings into its curriculum and activities. (PBS News Hour)
Forecasters are expecting an above-average year for hurricanes with the start of the season set to begin on June 1. Officials said they don't expect this year to be as devastating as 2024, which was the third costliest on record. This hurricane season comes after massive job losses at NOAA amid a broader Trump administration pushed to cut the federal work force. Officials stressed that the National Hurricane Center is fully staffed. (PBS News Hour)
The Department of Justice has reached a deal with Boeing that allows the plane maker to avoid prosecution for crashes involving its 737 MAX aircraft. Under the agreement, Boeing will pay more than $1.1 billion in fines, safety improvements and compensation for victims' families. The deal reverses a separate agreement reached last year during the Biden administration in which Boeing had agreed to plead guilty. Relatives had long called for a public trial after 346 people died in separate crashes back in 2018 and 2019. The current deal still needs to be finalized. (PBS News Hour)
Congressman Gerry Connolly has died. The Virginia Democrat served in Congress for more than 16 years, most recently as the top Democrat on the powerful House Oversight Committee. Connolly started in local government before moving to Congress. He was known for his willingness to engage in spirited debates and was an outspoken critic of President Trump. Last year, Connolly announced that he had esophageal cancer and later said he planned to retire from Congress. Gerry Connolly was 75 years old. (PBS News Hour)

Talgov is a hero! (you, too)
Heather Cox Richardson (who I love) quotes Aaron Rupar here for a stat you provide every week. “And yet, those who get their news by watching the Fox News Channel are likely unaware of the Republicans’ planned changes to Medicaid. As Aaron Rupar noted, on this morning’s Fox and Friends, the hosts mentioned Medicaid just once. They mentioned former president Joe Biden 39 times.”
